Our history

In 1973, Madame Cowan created her tourist transport company under the name of Marama Transports Touristiques. During the first years, she provided the reception and transportation for her clients on her own.
Her will, her strength of character associated with the ambition of success led her to prospect and canvass in foreign countries such as North America, New Zealand and Australia for her business to prosper and grow. The result encouraged her to create in 1978 her own receptive agency “Marama Tours”. It becomes a family business, Mrs. Cowan works there with her husband and children.
In 1987, it took a relatively important step for the future of its business on the one hand by forming within Marama Tours a new section made up of Japanese personnel in order to penetrate and improve ther very promising market and on the other hand by acquiring 3 new 45-seater buses thus propelling Marama Transports Touristiques to the rank of the largest on the island of Tahiti.
Since its objective is “quality and service”, both for the reception and for the transport of its customers. For many years Marama Tours has been present in major international trade fairs and thus actively participates in the promotion of French Polynesia. Marama Tours and Marama Transports Touristiques, which now have around 30 employees, have formed two interdependent LLCs since 1991.
In addition, in 1998, Mrs. Matahiapo Cowan was nominated for the DIXIT d’or “Economy”. In 2007, she received the distinction of Knight of the Order of Tahiti Nui.
Today, Mata COWAN has made Marama Tours one of the most important “receptive” Tour Operators in the Country and Marama Transports Touristiques one of the tourist transport companies, the largest in Tahiti with 18 vehicles ranging from 8 seats 45 seats, or nearly 400 seats. In addition, there are three discount vehicles for VIP service, including a Porsche Cayenne, a Chrysler 300 and a Mercedes class V.
Today the businesses are run by the children and grandchildren of Mata & Emile COWAN, so companies stay in good hands.
